A freak accident has Buckingham Palace and firefighters on their toes.
An electric tricycle caught fire while parked in front of Buckingham Palace, British newspaper The Telegraph reported. Images showed the smoldering remains of her frame. Its battery is believed to have spontaneously exploded while it was parked on the street.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told The Telegraph that the fire was not being treated as suspicious or deliberately lit. Fire department teams arrived at the scene and extinguished the remains of the fire. Firefighters from London were called immediately. No injuries were reported, and the incident ended in the early afternoon. The remains of the tricycle were removed by truck. Police cordoned off the area. The tricycle’s battery is believed to have been removed from the scene before the rest of the vehicle was safely thrown into the water. Fire officials were seen placing the battery in a box filled with liquid as they cleared the scene.
According to the London Fire Brigade’s website, firefighters responded to 87 electric bicycle fires and 29 electric scooter fires in 2022, the most recent year for which full figures are published.
Among the information on the website, it added: “Although e-bikes and electric scooters offer a great way to get around town, if the batteries are damaged or start to fail, they can cause extremely violent fires. Lithium battery fires can spread quickly and cause extensive damage in minutes.”
