Firefighter arrested for pick-up theft



The Surinamese police have arrested a 57-year-old man for theft of a pick-up. It turned out to be a member of the Suriname Fire Brigade.

An injured party reported the theft of his pick-up to the Paradise police on Thursday 7 October. The declarant told the police that, according to local residents, a man had driven away with his white-painted pick-up.

After an investigation by the law enforcement officers, the suspect GO, who is a firefighter, came into the picture shortly afterwards. After a general call for the various police stations and units, the said pick-up was spotted unattended that same day in the Kaaimanpolder in Wageningen.

Shortly afterwards, GO was stopped at the Burnside police checkpoint. After consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was taken into custody by the police, reports the police.
