Fired Lowe’s Employee Assaulted While Trying to Stop Thieves Stealing $2,000 Worth of Merchandise

RINCON, Ga. (Telemundo Atlanta) – A 68-year-old woman was fired from the Lowe’s store where she worked for more than a decade for trying to stop thieves who made off with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

According to Rincon, Georgia police, on June 25, three people loaded a shopping cart with more than $2,000 worth of products,

As the suspects tried to leave the store without paying, Donna Hansbrough grabbed the shopping cart to try to stop them, authorities say.

At that time, according to the police report, one of the suspects hit the woman in the face three times.

“I couldn’t sit and watch,” said the assaulted employee

“The subject decided that he wanted me to drop the car, so he hit me. I grabbed my glasses but I didn’t let go of the car so he hit me again and again,” said Donna Hansbrough.

Lowe’s company policy states that employees may not intervene during incidents of theft or robbery.

Hansbrough, said that even though she was left with a black eye and jobless, she “couldn’t just sit there and watch” someone walk out of the store without paying.

“It’s my fault, I feel bad, but at the same time I have mixed emotions,” Hansbrough said. “I love my job…I loved it. I enjoyed working with these people.”

“It’s two traumatic experiences in one when a person is the victim of a violent attack and also loses their job, their happiness, their peace, all at the same time,” Detective Vance said.
