A very large fire raged in the center of Heerenveen on Saturday evening. The fire broke out in a room above a restaurant. The fire was under control at about 11:30 p.m.
The customers who were present in the restaurant have been evacuated. Surrounding houses have also been evacuated. The five residents have found shelter for the night.
Two people suffered smoke inhalation and were checked by paramedics. One of them was taken to hospital just to be safe.
For a long time it was difficult for the fire brigade to reach the fire properly. Part of the building was therefore demolished, so that the fire brigade could reach it better. The fire was under control after about five hours. The fire service is still working on extinguishing the fire for a long time.
