The special thing is that the fire brigade’s own vehicles are in that garage.

And it was the fire crews themselves who said that their own old garage – right next to the Leka town building – was full of flames.

“Just had to look”

– The old fire station at Leka was completely burned, yes. The event can be called safe, said operator Roger Gjersvold at switch 110 in central Norway to NA at 04.45 Saturday morning.

All the equipment of the local fire service – including a crew car and tanker, as well as protective equipment for the firefighters – has been lost.

– As a result, the local fire teams only had to be spectators to the fire, explained Gjersvold, who says that there was no risk of it spreading to other buildings on the site. There is also no question of personal injury.

– A diesel tank and an old fort nearby have also burned to the ground, says Gjersvold.

A little after 05.00, it is reported that other rescue teams have come over to the island by ferry, and that the rescue has begun.

– There are still flames on the site, it is reported.

New unused fire station

According to the central 110 in central Norway, all the equipment of the local fire brigade was lost in the fire.

According to operator Roger Gjersvold, both the crew car, the tanker and the protective equipment were stored in the old garage – waiting for the island’s new fire station to be used.

Questioning witnesses

The police say that they are not sure at the moment what could be the cause of the fire.

– We have people on the site who question the fire service and possible witnesses, says operations manager Trond Hangaas at the police in Trøndelag.

The completely damaged garage is now being scrapped, he says further.

– The building is completely burnt, but fortunately no one was injured or inhaled smoke from the fire, he said.
