Jakarta –
Fire outbreak occurred at the fuel depot in Sevastopol, the main port in Crimea annexed Moscow Saturday. Authorities said the fire was caused by a drone strike.
Sevastopol is home to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and has been hit by a series of drone attacks since the Kremlin’s assault on Ukraine was launched last year.
“A fuel reserve caught fire in the Kazachya Bay district” of the city, Moscow-appointed Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said in a Telegram in the early hours of Saturday.
“According to initial information, it was caused by a drone strike,” he continued.
He said the size of the fire was “about 1,000 square meters” and published an image of a huge cloud of smoke rising into the air.
Razvozhayev called on Crimea to “keep calm”. He said “no one was injured” as a result of this incident.
He said authorities had “controlled the situation” and said there was no threat to civilian infrastructure.
Earlier this week, Russia said it had “repulsed” a drone attack on the port.
