A fire broke out last night on a boat in Arnhem where the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers receives asylum seekers. The fire started around 2 a.m. in the kitchen of the ship at the Nieuwe Kade. Soon the smoke spread throughout the ship.
The fire brigade evacuated this boat, as well as an adjacent vessel where asylum seekers are also housed. “All people got off the boats safely. An ambulance is present, where people are being checked who may have inhaled smoke,” a spokesperson said. against Omroep Gelderland.
Eight people were checked by ambulance personnel, but they did not need to go to hospital. The fire is now under control. About 300 residents have been accommodated in the city office. It is not clear when they will be allowed to return to the boats.
