Fire, meat & fine wines

“Winter.Winzer.BBQ” is the name of a new series of events in the Wachau domain, which will focus on great red wines and meat grilled over an open fire. It starts with Blaufränkisch superstar and 100-point winemaker (A la Carte) Albert Gesellmann from Deutschkreutz in Mittelburgenland, who on March 17th with the two legendary cuvées Opus Eximium and Bela Rex, the style-defining Hochberc and its monumental “G” im Luggage will set off for a casual and relaxed exchange in Dürnstein.

The wines are accompanied by culinary specialties from the in-house stone wall grill. The team at Domäne Wachau prepares, among other things, a dry-aged prime rib from Höllerschmid over an open grill fired with vine wood. The evening is rounded off by the cheese specialties from “cheese heroine” Eva Scharnagl and the white wines from the Wachau domain.

“We are very pleased that Albert Gesellmann is spending the evening with us at the start of our new Kellerschlössel series,” explains winery manager Roman Horvath. “For years, with his great interpretations, he has been an example of the fact that Austrian red wines have long since arrived in the world class.”
