A fire in a Manhattan building left seven people injured, three of them seriously, early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the incident that occurred around 6:15 am on 90th Street. According to authorities, it exploded in the compactor on the 10th floor of the building.
The smoke reached several floors when emergency crews arrived on the scene. One elevator was out of order and then another stopped working.
There were no reports of people trapped in the elevators.
It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the fire.
A total of seven people were taken to hospitals with various injuries. Three civilians were seriously injured, while three others suffered minor injuries. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries.
No other details were available.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
