A fire broke out in the WTC hotel in Leeuwarden on Saturday afternoon. It would be a fire in a sauna on the fourth floor. A lot of smoke is released during the fire.
At least six fire trucks and a number of ambulances are present. Part of the hotel has since been evacuated. Firefighters are inside to put out the fire.
Because a lot of smoke is released, it makes it difficult to extinguish the fire, Fire Brigade Fryslân reports on Twitter.
We immediately scaled up to Grip1, because the fire brigade received the report ‘very large fire’. The area has been cordoned off. The fire brigade urges people to give the emergency services space, because many people come from the area to watch.
Reception in casino
About 30 people were received in the Leeuwarden casino after the eviction. Some people have been checked by the ambulance. Other than that, there are no casualties.
The fire service reports that the fire is under control. But that the signal fire master has not yet been given. There is still a lot of smoke in the building.
