Fire in Tønsberg apartment building leaves one with serious burns

At around 03:00 on the night of Friday, the police reported that the fire service had the fire under control.

There are seven apartments in the building with a total of 14 registered residents.

– The residents involved have been taken care of by the healthcare system and will be taken to the emergency department for an examination, operations manager Tommy Eriksen in the South-East police district tells NRK.

One person has been sent to hospital with serious burns.

– Smoke divers have been inside the building and gone through all rooms and all floors so that there is a check on all people who have been in the building, says Eriksen.

It is not yet clear how the fire started.

– It is too early to say anything about the cause of the fire. The investigation will take place over time and the police have been on the scene early on and gained a certain overview, says the operations manager.

Apartment burned out

The fire brigade in Vestfold states that an apartment has been completely burnt out.

– This was very close to a total fire in the farm. Early notification to the emergency services and massive efforts from the fire crews prevented that. Even better is that everyone got out with their lives intact, says Deputy Fire Chief Kim Danielsen, in a press release.

The fire caused a lot of smoke in the center of Tønsberg and people were asked to stay away

– It is still burning strongly and there is a lot of black smoke. We ask people to keep their distance from the area, the police wrote on Twitter.

The police received a report about the fire in Stoltenbergs gate at 02.25 on Friday night.
