Fire in the Baintelkam hall of the Police Headquarters, thick smoke

Jakarta

One of the rooms of the Intelligence and Security Agency (Baintelkam) at Preccint, Jalan Trunojoyo, South Jakarta (Jaksel), caught fire again after going out earlier. Firefighters said the blaze was causing thick smoke.

“It just came back, it’s on again, the smoke is thick now,” the officer said call center South Jakarta Fire Department, Suparno, Thursday (24/11/2022).

The fire is known to have been initially successfully extinguished at around 20:00 WIB. But the fire was rekindled at 22.15 WIB.

A total of 15 firefighter units were deployed. 65 firefighters also attended the scene.

Suparno said the fire was caused by battery friction on the electrical panel. Until now, firefighters are still struggling to put out the fire.

“Initially the information was the replacement of the battery work in the switch cabinet,” he said.

“Previously, it lit, it was safe to use an APAR,” he added.

The police make sure there is no fire, just a short circuit

Chief of Service Headquarters (Yanma) of Kombes Police Headquarters Yudhi Sulistianto Wahid denied that there was a fire in any of the rooms of Baintelkam Police Headquarters. Yudhi said what happened was just a short circuit.

“So this needs to be explained that around 20:00 WIB at night, there was a short circuit when the workers cementing the batteries at the Baintelkam were about to be dismantled. Because the Baintelkam building really wanted to be demolished in the right way. So caused a short circuit not a fire, a short circuit for the battery of UTS Baintelkam,” Yudhi said when contacted by detik.com at 11.28pm WIB, Thursday (11/24).

Yudhi said that because the short circuit caused a lot of smoke, but no sparks appeared. Even so, many firefighters were on site to help clear the smoke from the building.
