On the night of this Saturday, a dense smoke from Salamanca Island once again covers several neighborhoods in the city of Barranquilla.
This was reported by several citizens through the Wasapea line to EL HERALDO and social networks, where they showed their nonconformity due to the repetitive burns in different parts of the island.
“It really hurts to see every time the ecosystem of the Isla Salamanca park catches fire and none of the competent authorities does absolutely anything to avoid or mitigate this situation,” said a citizen in his report.
While another citizen explained that “Barranquilla breathes smoke because of the burns on the island of Salamanca and no authority takes action on the matter.”
For her part, Esmeralda Moreno questioned: “Every week they try to invade Salamanca Island and every week they burn it, when will they give a definitive situation to this?”
Mitigation actions
Ana Saltarín Jiménez, head of the Barranquilla District Risk Management Office, assured EL HERALDO that the fire started on the night of the holiday Friday and affects a vast area of the park.
“From the start of the fire, the Sitionuevo Fire Department and the park brigade were activated. This Saturday, verification tasks were carried out with the support of the District with drones to assess the compromised area and to be able to implement the fire extinguishing route ”, explained the official.
Saltarín indicated that as of 6:00 am this Sunday the mitigation and control of the conflagration will begin, which requires air support.
