Fire in residential care center in Lessen: two residents died

Two residents died in a severe fire on Sunday afternoon in a residential care center in Lessen, in the province of Hainaut.

The emergency services were informed on Sunday afternoon at around 4:50 PM that a fire had broken out in a room of the rest home La Résidence on the rue de l’Hotellerie in Lessen.

Firefighters arrived with tankers and pump trucks from the barracks of Lessen, Aat and Leuze-en-Hainaut. The staff of the retirement home and the fire brigade evacuated the residents.

The emergency plans and medical intervention plans were activated. A reception and triage post has been set up in the cultural center of Lessen.

The fire has been extinguished, but during an inspection of the building, the bodies of two residents were found.

The parquet comes on site. The whole neighborhood is closed.
