In the night from Monday to Tuesday, homes in both Heeswijk-Dinther in North Brabant and Aalsmeer in North Holland were evacuated after a fire raged in Polish supermarkets below. The police of both places could not yet say whether there is a connection between the two incidents.
In Heeswijk-Dinther that fire was caused by an explosion, in Aalsmeer residents also heard a bang prior to the fire, but a spokesperson does not know what caused that bang.
Both stores are supermarkets where Polish products are sold.
In Heeswijk-Dinther, twenty residents of the apartment complex above the store had to be evacuated after the 1969 explosion on Plein. The people who live above the store were taken to a fire station, the police reported.
According to the police, there were no injuries, but there was a lot of damage. The police explosives expert is conducting an investigation and examining whether the deployment of the Defense Explosives Ordnance Service (EOD) is still necessary.
In Aalsmeer, the residents of four homes had to be temporarily sheltered elsewhere. There is damage to a number of houses there. The house above the shop is currently no longer habitable. A cat did not survive the fire.
A car in front of the building on Ophelialaan has also caught fire, according to a spokesman for the fire service.
