the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Campania announces that the first cycle of dioxin sampling has highlighted some concentration values within the reference values. In particular, Arpac has started, since the first hours of the request for intervention, monitoring activities of air quality, in particular of the concentration of dioxins and furans. The results refer to the first cycle carried out with two devices placed in the military area of Persian and in Borgo Carillia. In relation to the outcome, the Agency specifies: “As is known, there is no limit value in the legislation for the quality of ambient air for airborne dioxins and furans”therefore Arpac uses it as a reference for its own assessments “the value recommended by the LAI, the technical body of the Federal Republic of Germany, equal to 0.15 picograms per normal cubic meter in terms of total equivalent toxicity”.
The monitoring results in a value equal to the quantification limit in Borgo Carillia and a significant value, albeit slightly lower than the reference value, for the station located in the military district of Persano. Monitoring activities are still ongoing and in these hours the Agency is taking steps to increase them, searching for suitable and representative sites where to install two additional sampling stations.
