In the casino in the Schillerpark, a false ceiling has apparently caught fire. A hotel guest was slightly injured, around 120 people had to be brought to safety.

A fire broke out in the Schillerpark in Linz (Upper Austria) on Saturday morning. The building, which houses a hotel and a casino, was evacuated according to the police. Around 120 people were brought to safety. According to initial information from Casinos Austria AG, a hotel guest was slightly injured in the course of the evacuation. No other persons have apparently been injured so far.

Shortly before 10 a.m. there was a fire alarm in the casino, as a police spokesman said when asked by the APA. The Casino Linz was not yet in operation at the time. According to police, around 20 employees were brought outside, as were around 100 hotel guests. “The fire is under control,” said the police spokesman at noon.

According to the emergency services, a false ceiling has caught fire. There was a lot of smoke. The Linz fire brigade was deployed with around 40 firefighters, some with heavy breathing apparatus. The cause of the fire was initially unclear.

As Casinos Austria AG informed in a broadcast, there was a fire between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the first floor of Casino Linz. The fire and police forces were immediately on the scene. “All the necessary measures, such as the evacuation of the employees and the adjacent hotel, were initiated immediately.” According to current knowledge, the fire had broken out in a false ceiling on the first floor.

Since the incident occurred before the game started, no guests had been present at the casino at this time. The damage in the casino is still being charged. “The Casino Linz remains closed until it is clarified,” it said. “We assume that at least limited operation will be possible in the next few days.”

The inner city of Linz was largely closed due to the fire. According to the police, the ban lasts until “fire out” is given.
