“The search & rescue operation was intensive and very difficult as we had no idea of the number of residents,” says fire service spokesman Walter Derieuw. “According to information obtained later, about 80 people would be staying on site.”
According to the fire service, the cause of the fire was accidental, but the exact cause has yet to be determined. The fire brigade went to the scene with two fire trucks, two ladder trucks, a tanker for the water supply, and two ambulances. A MUG team from Brugmann Hospital also arrived on site.
