A fire broke out at noon on Friday 4/10 in Ilia, specifically in Geraki Amaliada areawhile a little later new fronts broke out in a forest area in Panopoulos area and in New Manolada.
Overall they are trying 265 firefighters with 6 groups of pedestrian sections and 83 vehicles. They dropped water from the air 17 aerial vehicleseight firefighting planes and nine helicopters, two of which have a coordination role.
At the front of the fire is already the deputy chief of the Fire Department, lieutenant general, Nikos Roumeliotis, and the chief, lieutenant general Theodoros Vagias, is moving over.

“The image presented by the fire in the Geraki area is better”says the mayor of Ilida, Christos Christodoulopoulos, speaking to APE-MPE.
As he adds, “there is no active front, neither in Geraki, nor in Havari, nor in Tsafleika, but the aerial firefighting means are still operating, which are extinguishing small outbreaks”.
Also, the mayor said that “strong ground firefighting forces are dealing with spotting of the fire and scattered rekindling so there is no active front again”.
Responding to the question about whether there has been damage to houses from the fire, Christos Christodoulopoulos said that “so far there is no official information”.
At the same time, the fires in the area of Panopoulos Ilia and Nea Manolada Ilia were brought under partial control.
A firefighter was injured
A firefighter from the 6th EMODE was seriously injured in the area between Bubuna and Havari, with the first information saying that he suffered crushing fracture.
His colleagues as well as an EKAV ambulance rush to the scene.
The firefighter was transported by Bell helicopter to the General Hospital of Pyrgos to undergo the first tests and it will be decided whether he will then be transferred to the University Hospital of Rio or to a hospital in Athens.
The fire fronts in Ilia
The first fire broke out near settlements north of it Gerakiou.
According to the announcement of the Fire Department, to extinguish the fire, 60 firefighters rushed to the scene with 3 groups of hikers and 13 vehicles, while 7 aircraft and 4 helicopters provided aerial assistance with water jets.

The second front broke out in a wooded area in the area Panopoulos in the municipality of Lasionos, where 32 firefighters with a group of pedestrians, 10 vehicles, 5 aircraft and a helicopter attempted.

The third fire occurred in low vegetation at New Manolada Ilias. Ground forces and 4 aerial vehicles were mobilized to extinguish it.

The flames towards Kryoneri
According to ilialive.gr, the fire was burning uncontrollably in the direction of Kryoneri.
In the area Boom Kryoneriou, the flames entered houses.
Strong winds in the area hampered firefighters’ efforts as conditions kept changing.
Echelon of DAEE in Ilia – Nine fires since morning in the prefecture
Nine fires have broken out since this morning in areas of the prefecture of Ilia and a team of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes is already on site.
The team is expected to collect information about the causes of today’s fires.
Extraordinary meeting under Kikilia
A coordination meeting was held under the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilia for the ongoing fire in Geraki Ilias.
The meeting was attended by relevant ministries, representatives of the Fire Department, security forces, the armed forces as well as all the agencies involved.
It is noted that the meeting was also informed about the fire that has broken out in the area of Panopoulos Ilia.
The front is big and the winds are strong
“The front of the fire that occurred in the Geraki area is very large and unfortunately the strong winds blowing in the area make it difficult for the aerial and ground firefighting forces”says, speaking to APE-MPE, the deputy governor of Ilia, Nikos Korovesis.
As the deputy regional governor added, “the front of the fire is now moving towards the Khavari area and there is a danger to residential areas”.
Also, Nikos Korovesis noted that “from the first moment, the Region of Western Greece sent all the machines of the Civil Protection, to assist the fire brigades”.
