Fire in Former Pool Hall in West Jakarta Claims Lives of Two Workers

Fire in shop a former pool hall in the Grogol Petamburan area, Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta, has claimed lives. Two people died and six other people were injured in the fire.

The fire occurred on Friday (12/5) early morning. The victims, who were construction workers, were trapped and panicked so they decided to jump from the 3rd floor.

Three Dead Victims

Head of Tanjung Duren Police Commissioner Muharram Wibisono said there were a total of 8 people in the shop. two dead, 6 were injured, and two survived.



“As a result, two people died with the initials FS (25) years and SM (42). And six people were injured,” Tanjung Duren Police Chief Kompol Muharram Wibisono, in his statement, Friday (12/5).

Separately Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjung Duren Police Iptu Tri Baskoro Bintang said the fire occurred on Friday (12/5) at around 00.40 WIB. Initially, on Thursday (12/5) at 06.00 WIB, 14 people known as workers wanted to renovate the shophouse in what was formerly a billiards hall.

At that time, it was found that the shop’s electricity was off due to electricity arrears. After paying the bill, the electricity was back on.

Sparks appeared

Moving into the night, FS and SM are together 10 employees about to rest on the 3rd floor. Meanwhile the other workers were on the 1st floor. At exactly 00.00 WIB, a fire broke out on the 3rd floor with conditions already filled with thick smoke.

“Around 00.00 WIB there was a fire at the TKP. At that time the atmosphere on the 3rd floor was filled with thick black smoke. And it made the atmosphere on the 3rd floor become chaotic and caused panic,” he said.
