A fire caused damage of 70,000 euros in a family home in the Main-Kinzig district. Neighbors took in the residents.
Birstein – As reported by the police headquarters in Southeast Hesse in Offenbach am Main, the fire control center in the family home on Schnurrstrasse in Birstein-Obersotzbach was reported around 11 a.m. on Saturday morning (May 27). The town is in the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse, at the southern foot of the Vogelsberg.
Witnesses noticed flames in the family home. “When emergency services arrived, smoke was pouring out of the windows. The fire probably broke out in the kitchen on the ground floor,” said a police spokesman. “The residents were not in the house at the time.”

The Obersotzbach, Untersotzbach and Birstein fire brigades fought the fire. “But the kitchen was completely destroyed by the fire,” the police said. “Due to the heavy smoke development, the house could no longer be entered by the residents. They temporarily stayed with neighbors.”
Shortly before 6 p.m., the mission was over for the rescue workers and the fire brigades were able to leave again. The damage to the house is estimated by the police at around 70,000 euros. The cause of the fire is still unclear. The criminal police have started the investigation, it was said in conclusion.
The police were last deployed in the Main-Kinzig district due to another incident. In a fight at a train station in the Kinzig valley, two young people were punched in the face. The perpetrators fled.
