NEW YORK – Sixteen people were injured, one of them a child, after a massive fire in Brooklyn on Friday night.
The first calls to 9-1-1 came around 11:20 p.m. to report a casualty in a multi-story residential building in the Sunset Park neighborhood.
A 4-year-old boy, who was on the second floor of the building, was rescued by police officers and taken to a nearby hospital due to cardiac arrest.
“The NYPD unit was on the scene and when our members were quickly taking the victims to the streets, our NYPD partners helped us quickly get them to nearby hospitals,” said FDNY Deputy Director Michael Gala.
A resident told our sister chain NBC New York that he had to jump from the third floor to be in safety.
Residents returned to the building on Saturday morning in hopes of recovering some of their belongings.
The minor’s condition was not disclosed.
The fire is still under investigation and the cause and origin of it has not yet been released.
