“Fire in Bergen Shop Declared Extinguished after Emergency Response”

On Monday evening, the emergency services moved out with large forces to Strandgaten in central Bergen.

– There has been a fire in some batteries in a shop, but it has been declared extinguished, says Jostein Steinsland Hauge, duty commander at 110 Vest.

He says that they moved out with crews from the main station, Laksevåg and Sandviken.

– There has been a lot of smoke at the site. There have been no reports of anyone being injured.

Come running

Hannah Larsen is the lock manager in the store. She says that it was a customer who discovered the fire and notified one of the employees.

– I was told that there was a fire and that I had to come down with the fire extinguisher. I jumped down and smashed the fire alarm, says Larsen.

Colleague Runar Myklebost took the extinguisher and extinguished the fire.

– It was scary, says Larsen.

She made sure to empty the store of people. Within three minutes, the fire brigade was on the scene.

The fire brigade carried the box with the battery that had burned out into the street and started airing out the shop.

The police were also on the scene.

– The police are carrying out investigations at the scene, writes the West police district.
