Fire in azc Middelburg, sought after new reception venue for 90 people

A fire broke out this morning around 08:00 in an asylum seeker center in Middelburg. Three houses were damaged, the security region reports.

The 280 residents who were in the building at the time of the fire were temporarily relocated to an adjacent sports hall. Some of them were examined by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

About 90 people who used to live on the third and fourth floors cannot go back. A new refuge is being sought for them. “The approximately 140 residents of the lower floors will not be able to return until tomorrow, because it will take at least 24 hours to make these homes available again”, specified the Security Region.
