Fire in asylum seekers center in Sneek: five injured, one arrested

A fire has broken out in an asylum seekers’ center in Sneek. A residential unit, in which several people live, burned down. Police have arrested a man on suspicion of arson.

Five people have been injured. Two of them had cuts caused by shards of glass. The other three inhaled smoke and were taken to hospital for a check-up. The arrested man was not injured.

The fire started in the kitchen, reports the fire brigade in Friesland. The fire was brought under control after about 45 minutes.

A lot of smoke was released during the fire. Adjacent units were also evacuated as a precaution; dozens of people had to leave their living quarters. The residents of those units can now return to their unit.
