Fire in a neighborhood of the capital of the Philippines burns hundreds of homes – Diario La Página –

Blazing orange flames and a thick cloud of black smoke spread across a dense neighborhood of Manila, the Philippine capital, on Sunday, where hundreds of homes were set alight.

The Manila fire department estimated that about 1,000 homes were burned by the fire. For now there is no information on human casualties.

Images captured by a drone from the municipal disaster management agency show numerous razed houses in the Puting Bato Island neighborhood of Manila.

According to firefighters, about 2,000 families lived in the affected homes.

One resident, Leonila Aibertas, lost almost all of her belongings, but managed to save her late husband’s ashes.

“I don’t really know how I can start my life again after this fire,” says the 65-year-old.

Emergency crews deployed 36 trucks and four fire boats and the army sent two helicopters to extinguish the fire.
