OVERHALLA: The fire watch in Namsos reported at around 11.15pm on Thursday evening.
– It is about a potato warehouse at Ranum horticulture which is on fire, André Lindgjerdet said at the 110 switchboard.
No risk of spread
The potato warehouse is thus located a few meters from Fv 17 at Ranemsletta – only a few hundred meters from the center of Overhalla. There are several buildings in the immediate vicinity of the building that burned, including two residential buildings.
– Our crews have just arrived at the scene, and so far we have not received any reports of a danger of the fire spreading, the fire watch told NA at around 11.15pm.
About a quarter of an hour later, the fire brigade confirmed that there was no immediate danger of the fire spreading.
– It is reported that there is no wind at the site. The smoke goes straight up, says Lindgjerdet.
Residents evacuated
Shortly afterwards, the police announced that the fire service was concentrating on securing the buildings around the warehouse in question.
– The people who live in the area have evacuated themselves, says the police, who can also report that it was the owner himself who reported the fire and alerted people in the area.
Burnt stock
Around midnight, NA’s photographer on the scene was able to report that large parts of the potato warehouse had collapsed and were completely burnt down. However, there were still large open flames at the site, and the fire crews then continued to secure the nearby buildings.
At about the same time, the police in Trøndelag reported that the fire crews have good control over the risk of the fire spreading to other buildings.
At 06:10, operations manager in the police, Else Stokkebø, confirms to NA that the potato warehouse has been completely burnt down.
– The fire is out. No other buildings or people were damaged.
Could be seen from a long distance
The fierce fire could be seen from afar in the dark autumn night.
The sea of flames was intense at times, and several of NA’s readers have sent pictures from afar – where the fire lights up the night sky.
