Fire destroys parts of well-known summer camp for sick children in CT – Telemundo New York (47)

CONNECTICUT – An atrocious fire destroyed several buildings of the popular summer camp for children on Friday The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp located in Ashford, Connecticut.

Ashford firefighters said they responded to an alarm and several smoke calls around 4:54 p.m. Friday and when they arrived they found a fire in the camp’s main building, which is a large wooden structure with smaller interconnected areas.

It took about 90 minutes to contain the fire, authorities said. That main building was destroyed, as well as a smaller adjacent one, but crews were able to save the camp’s dining hall and infirmary areas.

Ashford Fire Deputy Chief Tom Borgman said the building appears to have been empty at the time. No injuries were reported.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp It was founded by the late American actor Paul Newman. It is a camp that provides a true summer camp experience for children with serious illnesses and offers programs for their families.

The camp has full medical facilities on site to provide children with all the care they would normally receive in a hospital.
