A large fire has almost completely destroyed a beach pavilion in Bloemendaal aan Zee. Because several water tankers drive back and forth, the Zeeweg, the road to the beach, is closed.

The fire broke out at Bloomingdale Beach Club, where no one was present at the time. The fire brigade extinguished the entire night, mainly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby beach bars. The fire brigade is still present to ensure that the fire does not rekindle or spread to surrounding beach pavilions and the adjacent trampoline club. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire.

According to a spokesman for the Kennemerland Security Region, local residents have so far had little trouble with the smoke due to the wind. If people are bothered by this, the Security Region calls on people to close windows and doors and to turn off the ventilation.

The spokesperson expects people to be able to reach the beach by car again in the course of the morning. She does call on people on the beach not to ignore the barrier tapes at the pavilion. “Then don’t go any further, it can still smolder.”

No sea water used for extinguishing

The fire brigade did not have to use seawater to extinguish the fire. “We do not use fire hydrants in our region, but tank trucks,” says the spokesperson. “So water transport is well set up and the water transport trucks are always commuting, so there is a constant supply of water.”

Beach club Bloomingdale is a household name in the region. Initially, large parties were held in and around the pavilion by organizer ID&T. That number of parties was slowly limited by the municipality. In recent years, the pavilion has mainly been used for corporate events and as a restaurant.
