Fire Destroys Detached House in Stamsund, One Person Missing

At two o’clock on the night of Saturday, the police received a report of a fire in a detached house in a housing estate in Stamsund.

Police, fire and ambulance moved out. There were three people with residential addresses at the site. Two have escaped safely, while the third is missing. The house has been burnt down, says operations manager Kjetil Kaalsaas at the Nordland police district to Lofotposten.

– The two got out with their own help, he adds.

Fire chief Ragnhild Sæbø in the Lofoten Fire and Rescue Service says that the house was engulfed in flames when the fire service arrived.

– We concentrated on getting the flames knocked down so that there was no danger of spreading to the other houses nearby, says Sæbø.

The residents of the two nearest houses were evacuated.

Operations leader Christian Grøttheim in the police says that the police have started the investigation.

– In the next few hours, the fire brigade will sprinkle water to cool down the site. When the site has been cooled, we will start searching for the missing person, says Grøttheim.

The two who survived are in hospital.
