Fire chaos in Sweden: – Thrown Molotov cocktails against the police

The arrested are suspected of being behind a 20s fire in Eskilstuna, writes Expressen and Aftonbladet.

According to the media, the chaos started with the police being notified of an armed man in Torshälla, north of the city. They think it may have been a diversionary maneuver.

– We do not know if it was an attempt to get us out of the center, so that they could start more fires. We are investigating it now, says Laila Eriksson in the police region east to Expressen.

Tossed Molotov cocktails at the police

When the police arrived at the fires, they were met by people throwing Molotov cocktails (bottles of flammable substances) at them.

– There was a confrontation, and considering that about 20 fires have started, we do not know if it will continue, says Eriksson.

According to Eskilstuna-Kuriren someone tried to throw one of the homemade firebombs at a dog patrol. Petrol is also said to have been poured around police cars.

No one has been injured as of now, Eriksson states. according to SVT Eskilstuna police have asked for national reinforcement. The Swedish security service Säpo has been notified.

– Terrible

Eriksson says that the police have focused on trying to arrest people behind the most serious incidents. The three who have been arrested are suspected of attempted serious bodily injury.

They are known to the police from the past and will be questioned through the night and tomorrow.

– It is terrible that we have citizens who behave in this way. It is deeply tragic. The public is put in danger, it is their cars and caravans that are on fire, Eriksson tells Aftonbladet.

She says that it has been a demanding night for the police. They, and the health service, have had to drive shuttle traffic from fire to fire.

Nevertheless, they have managed to keep control, states spokesman Thomas Agnevik in the police region to the newspaper.

The police do not rule out more arrests.
