Fire burns down barn in Heiligerlee, NL-Alert because of the smoke (update)

‘Because of that smoke, we issued an NL-Alert’, says fire brigade spokesman Jesse Mol. ‘Due to the weather, that smoke also lingered in the area. People were therefore asked to keep doors and windows closed.’

In connection with the water extraction, it was scaled up to medium fire. ‘We had an extra tanker sprayer come in.’

Some residents have inhaled smoke. Mol: ‘That’s why two ambulances came to the scene.’

According to the fire service, the barn can be considered lost. “We’ve actually mastered the incident, which means we don’t expect the fire to spread further.”

The NL-Alert has not been in effect since 5:15 PM, although some smoke is still released during the extinguishing.
