The Heerenveen fire brigade made a striking discovery on Sunday evening when they came to extinguish a fire in the forest near Oranjewoud: they found an underground hut close to the location of the fire.
The fire brigade had turned out for an outside fire near the Tjeerd Roslaan, where a small wood parcel was on fire. Together with a number of people who had reported the fire, the firefighters walked into the forest with a hand extinguisher.
The fire could easily be extinguished, but it turned out not to be the most remarkable thing on the site: a large underground hut was found nearby. The space was fully furnished with sofas, among other things.
The police also came in and took note of the case. The cause of the fire is unknown. It is also not yet clear who owns the hut and whether it had anything to do with the fire.
