The fire brigade was turned out this morning for a raging fire in the Van der Hoopstraat in the Staatsliedenbuurt. It had to be scaled up to get the fire under control. The signal for fire has now been given.
The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the attic of an upstairs apartment in the street. After the fire brigade decided to scale up, the fire was quickly under control, says a spokesperson.
One person is checked in the ambulance. It is not yet known how he is doing. It is also not yet clear how extensive the damage to the home is.
The fire has not spread to other homes, but twelve residents of surrounding apartments have been evacuated as a precaution. They are collected in a tram stopped down the street. Smoke measurements are currently being taken in the homes to see if the residents can return this morning.
