No one was injured – some of the buildings are currently unusable
A fire broke out in a room in the operating room of the Urology Clinic at the University Hospital Düsseldorf (UKD) on Sunday evening shortly after 8:30 p.m. After an alarm was automatically triggered by the UKD fire alarm system, emergency services from the Düsseldorf fire brigade were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No one was injured as a result of the fire. At the time of the fire, there was no operation in this area, as these are premises for ambulatory surgeries, which are usually carried out during the day.
The UKD would like to thank the fire brigade for their quick and effective action and the employees in the building for their careful action. For example, a patient was moved from an adjacent part of the building for a short period of time as a precaution, but was able to return once the extinguishing work was completed.
Due to the fire and above all the heavy smoke development, large parts of the ground floor in the building of the urology and the outpatient surgery center (AOZ) are currently not usable and closed. As a result, planned treatments may be postponed. How extensively this will affect patient care in this area can only be clarified after a comprehensive inventory.
Since urology is a separate building on the UKD campus, other areas and wards are not affected.
The responsible specialists have not yet provided any information on the cause of the fire.
