Hot metal causes fire at Outokumpu steel mill
Krefeld Hot metal falling from a punch ignited a fire at Outokumpu’s steel mill. Nobody got hurt.
The Krefeld fire brigade was called on Friday afternoon at around 2.40 p.m. to a fire in the Outokumpu steelworks on Oberschlesienstraße. Hot metal that had fallen out of a punch caused a small fire there, a spokesman for the fire brigade said. Nobody was injured.
According to the fire department, the fire was extinguished with hand-held fire extinguishers. The factory building had meanwhile been heavily smoked. The rescue service saw four employees from the relevant hall. When the fire brigade arrived, everything was “in the safe area,” said the spokesman. The operation lasted around an hour.
