Injured and millions in damage after fire: DJ Ötzi performance and fireworks: Reifenkönig’s wedding party ends in inferno

A fire breaks out during a wedding at a tire manufacturer’s compound. Five people are injured. Fireworks may have caused the fire.

Five people were slightly injured in a major fire on the premises of a tire dealer in Gammertingen (Sigmaringen district). “The damage caused cannot yet be precisely quantified, but it is estimated at several million euros,” the police said on Sunday. According to a spokesman, the investigators are checking whether a wedding fireworks display on Saturday evening could be related to the inferno.
As the “Schwäbische Zeitung” reported online, nobody less celebrated his wedding on Saturday evening than the company owner himself. The singer DJ Ötzi also performed there. His manager was initially unable to provide any further information. The company itself did not respond to a dpa request.
Around 10:30 p.m. fireworks took place on the site, reports the “Schwarzwalder Bote”. A police spokesman told the “Reutlinger Generalanzeiger”: “There were fireworks. Investigations have not yet shown that it caused the fire. But it is obvious.”
At around 11:30 p.m., the first reports of a fire on the company premises were received. At the top, 380 firefighters from four districts were deployed, said the spokesman for the district fire brigade association in Sigmaringen, Joachim Pfänder.

Four people hospitalized with suspected smoke inhalation
Burning tires in the external warehouse, wrapped in foil, parts of a warehouse, vehicles and gas bottles went up in flames. “It was quite a fire,” said Pfänder.
The emergency services could have prevented the flames from spreading to another tire warehouse or in the direction of an adjacent residential area and the forest behind the industrial area, said the fire department spokesman. “We drove a massive firefighting operation.”
With excavators, they would have pulled apart the fire in the morning in order to be able to better extinguish embers. Pfänder assumed that the mission would last the whole of Sunday.
Everywhere it was still smoking from the rubble. A burned-out vehicle wreck and deformed metal linkage were seen on the site. The heat had even left its mark on the fire brigade’s emergency vehicles, causing paintwork to burst open.

According to Pfänder, four of the injured were taken to the hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. Another person suffered lacerations in a fall.
Due to the heavy smoke development, residents in the city were asked to keep doors and windows closed, according to the police. It was initially unclear when experts could view the scene of the fire. This depends, among other things, on when information about the cause of the fire is made.
