In Sittard a fire rages in two warehouses which include a fitness club. As far as is known, there were no casualties. At around 7:15 am, the security region reported that the extinction was still ongoing.
The extinguishing work leads to many annoying odors, reports the security region Chirping. By extinguishing the spread to surrounding buildings, the fire could be prevented.
Rail traffic has resumed
As the complex is located next to the railway, the railway traffic between Sittard and Heerlen has been temporarily stopped. The NS expects trains to resume running at around 8.45am.
The fire started around 2:45am. According to a spokesman for the security region, there is a tennis court and a padel court in the buildings. The complex consists of warehouses that are part of a large block with several buildings which also include a fitness centre.

According to a spokesman for the South Limburg security region, it is a serious fire. Firefighters are present with various means to put out the fire.
The extinguishing water comes with a water transport system, the security region reports on Twitter, as there is not enough available on the site.
The fire produces a lot of smoke. Firefighters therefore advise people in the area to keep windows and doors closed. Particles from the fire ended up in the adjacent Ophoven district. These are soot particles according to the safety region. These can be washed off with water by the residents themselves.
