A fire broke out today at around 5 am in an apartment in Kolonaki.
According to the information, the apartment belongs to the sportswriter and former ND MEP, Manoli Mavrommatis, and both he and his wife were inside the apartment that went up in flames. 12 firefighters with 3 vehicles attempted to extinguish the fire.
According to ERT, he has serious burns on 18% of his body surface and his wife has more serious burns on 40% of her body. Their condition is described as critical. His wife has a more severe clinical picture and was put on mechanical support.
Both are being treated in the Burns Unit of the hospital’s plastic surgery department.
They were already asleep when the house began to fill with smoke from the fire which, according to information, started in the kitchen of the maisonette on the second and third floors.
Strong police forces rushed to the scene and managed to free Manolis Mavrommatis and his wife from the stairwell.
They were immediately picked up by an EKAV ambulance and transported to the “Gennimatas” hospital as they were suffering from shortness of breath due to the smoke.
According to the fire department, the fire broke out shortly before 5 am in a second floor apartment on Anagnostopoulou street. As it became known from the fire brigade, two people were removed from the apartment, a man and a woman, who were then taken by the EMS and taken to the hospital with breathing problems.
