A fire broke out at a primary school in Norway late Tuesday night, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
According to local authorities, the fire alarm was triggered automatically, alerting firefighters to the blaze.“We received the message as an automatic fire alarm, and it turns out that there is a fire there,” a spokesperson for 110 nordland, the emergency services, told Bladet Vesterålen.
The fire produced a meaningful amount of smoke, leading police to advise nearby residents to close their windows and doors as a precautionary measure.
“The emergency services are working on the scene. People are asked to move away from the site due to a lot of smoke,” police stated in an update around 11 p.m. local time.
Authorities confirmed that the school’s entrance was the point of origin for the fire.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries, and police indicated they had no reason to believe anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.
By 11:29 p.m., the fire service had gained control of the blaze and successfully extinguished it.
“At 23.29, the police report that the fire service has control and that the fire has been extinguished,” the police announced.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
