UA fire in a recycling plant located in the town of Santa María Chiconautla in Ecatepec consumed dozens of tons of waste and caused a large cloud of smoke. The strong fire caused the mobilization of emergency forces from the municipalities of the region to put out the flames, with no injuries reported, only the evacuation of about one hundred residents from the surrounding homes. The rescue forces reported that the incident began shortly after noon in a warehouse located on Progreso Avenue, corner of Las Torres, so dozens of firefighters and Civil Protection personnel were immediately mobilized. The fire caused a large column of black smoke to rise in the area within minutes, which could be seen from surrounding municipalities, which caused fear among the inhabitants. Neighbors abandoned their homes while municipal police cordoned off the area to prevent people from approaching. The fire consumed dozens of tons of plastics and waste, causing the flames to spread to the surrounding walls of two more warehouses, one for sheets and the other for PET products.
