Fire at Nordkjosbotn School Causes Extensive Damage: No Classes on Monday

There has been a fire at Nordkjosbotn school in Troms.

The police reported the fire at X at 00:40.

On arrival, they reported a full fire in one wing of the building.

At 03.02, the fire crews were still carrying out extinguishing work.

– It is clear that the school has suffered major damage. The smoke now rises straight up and blows out over the fjord. Balsfjord municipality was notified shortly after the police received notification of the fire and have taken action in accordance with their routines, the police write.

Councilor Øyvind Korsberg in Balsfjord municipality says Northern Lights that there will be no classes at school on Monday. He tells the newspaper that the school’s future is uncertain.

– One wing is on fire, but how much of the school can be saved is highly uncertain, he says. The municipality has set up a crisis team.

VG spoke to someone who lives nearby just before half past four. He was able to report continued heavy smoke at the site.
