Hundreds of people were evacuated overnight at Les Grands Pins campsite in Lacanau. In all, 893 employees and vacationers were awakened around 11:20 p.m. by a fire.
The fire burned 400 m2 on 5 buildings, in which were located, in particular, the restaurant, and the games room of the campsite. The fire is now out, the operation required the work of fifty firefighters.
Nine people were affected by the fumes. Among them, a campsite employee was transported to the Arès hospital center. Today, “the news is reassuring” concerning it, blows the mayor.
According to the town hall, the forest has not been impactedand the campers were able to return to their accommodation around 3am.
For now the cause of the accident remains unknown, An investigation is underway. The accidental thesis is privileged.
“We had more fear than harm”
This morning, the campsite was able to resume normal activity, assures Laurent Peyrondet, the mayor of Lacanau: “There the firefighters are leaving, the 400 m2 of buildings have been isolated”. And no impact on the activity of the site, as these are not vital to its operation. These are mainly storage buildings. Starting tomorrow, debris removal work will begin.
