Kochi: 20 fire rescue personnel were injured while trying to put out the fire and smoke that broke out in the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant. A soldier who suffered from vomiting was admitted to the hospital. 23 fire units from Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam and Thrissur districts are trying to put out the Brahmapuram fire.
At the same time, people are advised to stay indoors as much as possible on Sunday due to problems with smoke. All hospitals have also been asked to be prepared to deal with health problems of the people including respiratory problems.

Health Minister Veena George said that there is no need to worry. The minister stated that the elderly, sick, pregnant women and children should be taken care of and the health department has made arrangements for this. Two oxygen parlors have been set up at Brahmapuram.
