The 18 children and three educators from the Aiguelongue children’s home in Montpellier were accommodated in another structure in the department. There are no injuries.
The Hérault firefighters intervened on the night of December 23 to 24 around midnight for a fire at the Departmental Children and Families home at 1, rue des tourterelles in the Aiguelongue district of Montpellier.
The fire started from a 10 m² technical room on the ground floor of the two-story building. The fire, which was quickly extinguished and contained in the technical room, required ventilation of the premises. The 18 children and 3 educators from the home were outside when help arrived.
After the ventilation and stripping operations carried out by the firefighters in the presence of the director of the establishment, the use of the premises was not possible in the days to come for safety reasons.
No injuries were reported but the children and staff were directed to another structure: the Blue Arch, in Clapiers, north of Montpellier. The causes of the fire are currently unknown. An investigation is open.
