“I was sleeping, a neighbor knocked on my door to tell me there was a fire,” recalls Abdel Kader. His neighbor Christian, installed at 4e and top floor of the damaged building, waited for the firefighters at his window before leaving. The 50-year-old is leaning on a cane, handicapped by knee prostheses. “I saw the smoke rise,” he describes. The hand of the two men is blackened by the soot which now covers the banister of the common stairs. Many residents were very scared.

Abdel Kader remembers a first fire that occurred in June 2021 in one of the old buildings of the home. The building complex, located at the level of the roundabout, is being renovated.

Electrical origin a priori

Residents grabbed what they could (a computer, a pack of cigarettes, a phone) before rushing out of their rooms. The fire was contained but the damage was too great, they were all relocated. Six were on site in Thionville, in neighboring buildings. Five others now occupy a room in the Adoma hostels in the area.

The municipal police and the national police were present on the spot. Investigations are being carried out to establish the causes of the fire. The accidental, electric track is preferred.
