Ahmedabad: Gujarat Police has registered an FIR against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, chief of banned organization ‘Sikhs for Justice’ (SFJ) for threatening to turn the Cricket World Cup starting from October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad into a ‘World Terror Cup’. The complaint lodged by cyber crime branch sub-inspector H N Prajapati said that it has come to his notice that several people have received pre-recorded threatening messages from a phone number. In the pre-recorded message it has been said that October 5 will not be the beginning of the Cricket World Cup but it will be the beginning of the ‘World Terror Cup’.
It has been threatened that Sikhs for Justice is going to raid Ahmedabad with Khalistani flags. The FIR quotes the message as saying, ‘We will avenge the murder of martyr Nijjar. We will answer your bullets with ballot papers. We will answer your violence with votes. According to the FIR, ‘Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has been declared a terrorist by the Government of India and he is running an organization called Sikhs for Justice from abroad.’ The FIR states that Pannun is trying to create fear and enmity between Sikhs and other communities in the country and is involved in terrorist activities in the country. He has been involved in such notorious activities in the past too, especially on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
Cricket World Cup will start on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pannun has given this threatening message after the diplomatic standoff between India and Canada over the alleged killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada on June 18. The much awaited match between India and Pakistan in this ICC tournament is to be played on 14 October in Ahmedabad.
