FIP President: Pharmacists are an integral part of a well-functioning health system

“The global health emergency linked to COVID-19 has shown that pharmacists and pharmacies are an integral part of a well-functioning health system,” said the now former president of the FIP in his presidential address at the opening of the 80th Congress of the Federation. International Pharmacists (FIP) in Seville, Spain Dominic Jordan (Dominica Giordano). He pointed out that during the pandemic, the pharmacy profession developed at “unprecedented speed”, expanding its range of businesses to provide more services. For example, according to FIP data as of August 2022, pharmacy vaccinations are now available in at least 40 countries and territories, 20 more than in 2016.

FIP Vice President Ash Soni (Ash Soni) told Congress that the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted access to health services and created additional burdens, including an increase in mental health care needs. “Add wars and food shortages to this landscape, and it will come as no surprise that decades of improvements in health are now in danger of being reversed,” the FIP vice president told congress. He added: “For universal health care to become a reality, it is necessary to accelerate the delivery and adoption of essential health services in pharmacies. The pharmaceutical industry, thanks to its many sectors and areas of expertise, is very important for the overall health of the world, “he said.

We have already reported that a new president of FIP was elected on 17 September: Australian pharmacist Paul Sinclair (Paolo Sinclair).
