Fiorita, very close to a million signatures for autonomy referendum

(ANSA) – CATANZARO, 21 AUG – “The counter of the digital platform of the Ministry of Justice has just certified the achievement of 500,000 signatures online in support of the request for a referendum to repeal the Calderoli law and it is safe to bet that their number will continue to increase. The goal of one million signatures is therefore close, very close, because to this figure are added the hundreds of thousands of signatures collected at stands and in municipal offices throughout Italy”. This was stated in a statement by the mayor of Catanzaro, Nicola Fiorita. “Calabria, in the ratio between signatures collected and population – adds Fiorita – is always among the first regions in this battle for democracy. Therefore, while Calabrian politics relies on the most varied subterfuges to avoid taking a position, the popular response is increasingly strong. It is not difficult to imagine that when the scholars appointed by the Regional Council and Anci deliver their conclusions on the possible consequences of the law in Calabria, the referendum will have already been called. And it will be an unprecedented defeat for a political class that has not had the courage to assume its responsibilities”. (ANSA).
