Finland re-named the most country happy in the world by the United Nations (UN). The year 2021 will be the fourth time Finland has won the title.
“During the pandemic, Finland was ranked highest in terms of protecting each other’s livelihoods and livelihoods,” wrote the study authors, citing Mint.
Since this report was first issued in 2018, Finland has continued to be the happiest country.
This survey seeks to measure individual freedom and personal satisfaction with their respective lives. The survey uses data from 149 countries along with GDP measures, levels of social support, and perceptions of corruption.
As a result, Finland was found to be superior with quiet world-class public services, low crime rates, and high levels of trust in government.
“The basics are very good here. Nobody here lives on the streets. There is unemployment here, but health services are very functional,” said florist Riitta Matilainen, quoting AFP.
The long winter in Finland also made this country have high levels of alcohol consumption and suicide. However, a decade of public health efforts have helped bring that number down by more than half.
In addition, the main recipe for happiness that Finland experiences is the vast and soothing expanse of nature. Finland is a country with rows of lush forests and thousands of lakes. The traditional steam baths available in various parts of the country are also said to have contributed.
“The key to the happy title of the Finnish is going to the outdoors, with forest lakes and thousands of lakes, as well as traditional steam baths,” said Paao Virkkunen, Head of Finnish Promotion Service, Business Finland.
The same is true of Finnish cuisine, which has previously been ridiculed for its bland taste. Today, restaurant owners praise the simplicity and natural ingredients of Finnish cooking.
“I think we’ve grown as a nation, understanding the basics of happiness a little better than we understood before,” said Virkkunen.
Apart from Finland, the order of the level of happiness in the world is followed by Denmark in second place, followed by Switzerland, Iceland and the Netherlands.
